Where: Wattle Flat Heritage Lands and Windradyne’s Grave
When: Sunday 14 June, 9.00am
Leader: Steve Woodhall
Grade: 3 – moderate. No formed trails, uneven surfaces with logs, some slopes.
Meeting place: Orange High School Bus Bay
The aim of the trip is to visit two locations, Windradyne’s Grave and the Wattle Flat Heritage Lands Reserve.

The Wattle Flat Heritage Lands are a surviving area of native bushland which contains what is believed to be the northern most naturally occurring examples of Eucalyptus cinerea (Argyle apple), an important koala food tree. Foot access through the reserve is via the Buurree Walking Track and fire trails. Picnic shelters and toilets are available at the Wattle Flat Reserve. Wattle Flat is a 30-minute drive from Bathurst.

We will wander the eucalyptus woodland and down a slope to a gully, at this first stop to see what else can be found; plants in flower, birds, and reptiles.
Windradyne’s Grave (assuming it’s not too wet). Windradyne was an Aboriginal warrior who led a resistance fight against the white colonists. It was an interesting and violent time in our history with martial law being imposed in the Bathurst area. Access to Windradyne’s Grave is through private property and is weather dependant. 4WD vehicles are required. If access to Windradyne’s Grave is not possible, a walk through the Boundary Road Reserve at Bathurst can be added to the trip.
Meet at the bus bay at 9am sharp to carpool. We will drive to Bathurst and meet Steve at the hockey fields, on the left, just over the Macquarie River. Please consider a donation for the driver if you carpool.
Members should come prepared for cold and wet weather. It will be a full day excursion. Bring morning tea, lunch, water, a chair, and any essential medications you may need. Sturdy footwear recommended so please wear closed walking shoes and suitable clothing.
